* bird-watching in the Cloud Forest (Bellavista preserve)
* climbing extinct volcanoes (Pasochoa, Corazon, Iliniza Norte, the town of Latacunga, and Cotopaxi)
* visiting the hot springs of Banos with the Tungurahua volcano erupting overhead
* rafting and walking in the upper Amazon jungle near Tena
* walking in the countryside near Otavalo
